Kansas is not typically known for its wine industry, but the state is home to a rich and fascinating wine-making history that dates back over 150 years. From the earliest settlers in the region to the family-owned vineyard we run today, Kansas has a rich legacy of producing high-quality, flavorful wines that are enjoyed by wine lovers all over the world.

The History of Wine Making in Kansas

The first vineyards in Kansas were established by German settlers in the mid-19th century. These settlers brought with them the traditional European winemaking techniques that they had learned in their home countries, and they soon found that the fertile soil and favorable climate of Kansas were ideal for growing a variety of grape varieties.

Over the next several decades, the wine industry in Kansas continued to grow and flourish, and by the turn of the 20th century, the state was home to over 150 wineries. However, the industry suffered a major setback during Prohibition, and many wineries were forced to close their doors.

In the decades following Prohibition, the industry struggled to regain its footing in the state, but in recent years, it has experienced a resurgence.
